Base Unit Offline: How to Reconnect to Wi-Fi
Follow these steps if your SenseStack Base Unit is offline and needs to be reconnected to the site's Wi-Fi network.
Why is my Base Unit offline?
If a SenseStack Base Unit shows as OFFLINE, the most common causes are:
- The Base Unit has lost power.
- The Base Unit has lost its Wi-Fi connection.
If the Base Unit has power but remains offline, follow the steps below to reconnect it.
Wi-Fi Requirement
The SenseStack Base Unit requires access to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network with a good signal at the location of the Base Unit.
The whole process at a glance
- Check power
- Hold LED button for 10 seconds
- Connect to SenseStack-XXXX
- Enter SenseStack Wi-Fi password (sensestack123)
- Open 192.168.4.1
- Open Wi-Fi page
- Enter 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi ID / SSID + Wi-Fi password
- Save
- Device restarts
- Wait ~2 minutes
- Device online
Before you start
You will need
- Access to the SenseStack Base Unit
- A phone, tablet or laptop
- The name of the site's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
- The Wi-Fi password
- Access to the SenseStack web app
SSID = the name of your Wi-Fi network. The SenseStack Wi-Fi password (default sensestack123) is only used to join the temporary SenseStack-XXXX network during setup — it is separate from your site Wi-Fi password.
Step 1 of 8
Check the Base Unit has power
Make sure the SenseStack Base Unit is plugged in and receiving power.
If the Base Unit has no power
- Check the power socket.
- Check the Base Unit power supply.
- Restore power before continuing.
If the Base Unit has power but is still showing offline, continue to Step 2.
Step 2 of 8
Put the Base Unit into Wi-Fi Setup Mode
Locate the LED button on the SenseStack Base Unit. This is the single physical button on the current Base Unit.
- Press and hold the LED button for 10 seconds.
- The Base Unit is now in Wi-Fi Setup Mode.
Step 3 of 8
Connect to the SenseStack Wi-Fi network
On your phone, tablet or laptop, open Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Look for the temporary SenseStack Wi-Fi network. It will appear similar to SenseStack-XXXX.
- Connect to this network.
"No Internet Connection" is normal
Your phone may warn that the SenseStack Wi-Fi network has No Internet Connection. This is expected. Stay connected to the SenseStack Wi-Fi network and continue to the next step.
Step 4 of 8
Enter the SenseStack Wi-Fi password
When you connect to the SenseStack-XXXX network, your phone or laptop will ask for a Wi-Fi password. Use the default SenseStack Wi-Fi password below. This password only protects the temporary SenseStack setup network — it is not your site Wi-Fi password.
- Enter the default SenseStack Wi-Fi password when prompted to join SenseStack-XXXX.
- Your device will now join the SenseStack setup network.

Open the SenseStack setup page
While still connected to the SenseStack-XXXX Wi-Fi network, open Safari, Chrome or another web browser and type this address into the browser address bar:
Setup page address
192.168.4.1The SenseStack configuration page should now appear.
Step 6 of 8
Open the Wi-Fi page
At the top of the SenseStack configuration page, select Wi-Fi. This opens the Wi-Fi configuration form.
Step 7 of 8
Enter the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi ID / SSID and password
The Wi-Fi configuration form requires two pieces of information. The SenseStack Base Unit only connects to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network — 5 GHz networks will not work.
- SSID — enter the exact name of the site's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. SSID simply means the name of your Wi-Fi network.
- Password — enter the password for that Wi-Fi network.
Enter the Wi-Fi details exactly
IMPORTANT: Enter the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi ID / SSID and password exactly as configured. Both are case-sensitive. Watch for uppercase/lowercase characters and accidental spaces before or after the Wi-Fi ID or password.
Step 8 of 8
Save and wait for the device to come online
Once the Wi-Fi details have been entered, select SAVE. The SenseStack Base Unit will save the new credentials and restart automatically.
What happens next
- Save the new Wi-Fi credentials.
- The Base Unit restarts automatically.
- Wait approximately 2 minutes for it to reconnect to the site's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- The Base Unit reconnects to SenseStack and resumes sending data.
You can now disconnect your phone, tablet or laptop from the temporary SenseStack-XXXX network.
Please wait ~2 minutes
The Base Unit needs time to restart, connect to Wi-Fi and begin communicating with SenseStack. Do not assume that pressing SAVE means the device is successfully online.
After waiting ~2 minutes, open the SenseStack web app to confirm the device is online.
Check device statusSuccessful connection
Device Online
Your SenseStack Base Unit has successfully reconnected to Wi-Fi and is sending data again. No further action is required.
Still showing offline?
If the device still shows OFFLINE, do not immediately repeat the entire process. First:
- Wait another couple of minutes.
- Refresh the SenseStack web app.
- Check the device status again.
If it continues to show OFFLINE, check the following.
