    Sensor placement and accuracy — what to check

    The single biggest reason sauna monitoring fails is bad probe placement. A probe wired into the stove's own thermostat measures stove temperature, not bather temperature. A probe glued to the ceiling reads a heat pocket that has nothing to do with what a guest actually feels on the bench.

    The commercial standard is a probe mounted at bench height, 300–500mm from the wall, in free air — the same position a bather's torso occupies.     Readiness alerts vs raw temperature — the operational difference

    A raw temperature reading forces staff to interpret: 'Is 72°C ready or not? Depends on the cabin.' A readiness state is a decision the system has already made using calibrated thresholds and dwell time. That difference — decision vs data — is what separates a monitoring toy from operational infrastructure.

    Look for a system that lets you set per-cabin readiness bands (a Finnish cabin might target 80–95°C, an infrared cabin 45–60°C) and only flips to Ready after the temperature has been in-band for a configurable dwell window. Instant flips are noise; dwell-validated flips are trustworthy.
